Video: Au Revoir Simone: "Fallen Snow"
When you're directing a video for a band of three pretty young women who sing sugary keyboard pop songs, it's your game to lose, isn't it? Production company Disposable Television wisely keeps things simple in the video for "Fallen Snow", from Au Revoir Simone's upcoming The Bird of Music album. Echoing a sentiment issued on 2005's Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation ("just make a wish and everything comes true"), the girls hold hands and close their eyes, then are transported to a sunny field full of bubbly brooks, treehouses, and (of course) magic. Combined with the song's pretty bells and gentle synth chord progression, and the band's lemonade harmonies, there isn't a second of chill in "Fallen Snow", except for the song's heartbreak lyrics. But, according to Au Revoir Simone, heartbreak isn't the worst: "Depressing things are empty beds and lonely dinners/ And women who are middle-aged with naked fingers," they sing. Not that they'll ever know.
