New Music: Asobi Seksu: "Then He Kissed Me" (Live Crystals cover) [MP3]

We talked to Asobi Seksu last year about their live cover of the Crystals' "Then He Kissed Me", the Phil Spector-produced track with classic Wall-of-Sound production. Back then lead singer Yuki said, "I love all those girl group records, but as a kid I didn't have a record player...And you know there's controversy over whether it was accidental or not how Phil Spector found his Wall of Sound, how he came up with this technique. But either way, the sound he created on record was amazing, and so to be able to experiment with a song like that was a lot of fun for us." Asobi Seksu's forthcoming live album includes their cover of the track, which swirls and buzzes around Yuki's gossamer voice. We can only imagine how loud this must sound when you're a foot away from the stage.

The band will release a studio recording of "Then He Kissed Me" on 7" along with a new, original track in March. We hope Yuki's got a record player now.
