New Music: Blonde Redhead: "23" [MP3]
The title track off the seventh album from no-wave necromancers Blonde Redhead has misleading details. There's some subtle whammy bar usage that makes it sound like it's going backwards for just a second. The drumming is steady enough to sound like a loop. And the title, which we hoped was a marketing tie-in with the Jim Carrey film of the same name, is actually "two-three", not "23." That's not to say we know what singer Kasu Makino is talking about-- her always-spectral voice blends too well with the rest of the track to catch many individual words.
