New Music: The Sea and Cake: "Crossing Line" [Stream]

Sam Prekop's voice, with its arid, parched tones and dispassionate delivery, is one of the gentlest and calmest in indie rock-- the one you want on the other side of 911 when you need to give your uncle the Heimlich. This debut track from Everybody, their first album in four years, doesn't stray too far from their previous material-- in fact it's arguably more stripped down than past work.

"Crossing Line" feature almost none of the subtle electronic flourishes on 2003's One Bedroom, just some synthesizer-processed guitar. The Sea and Cake have always been reserved, though, and Prekop is typically straightforward here: "All I need is a little smile", he coaxes. "I'm too tired to live a lie."
