Exclusive Premiere: Jena Malone: "Tested Dry" [MP3]

As reported Friday by Pitchfork News, actress Jena Malone has become musician Jena Malone, and will release her first 7" for avant-rock label The Social Registry later this year. While she has some tracks streaming on her MySpace page, Malone was also generous enough to send us "Tested Dry", one of the two songs that will appear on the 7".

Backed by a Weezer-aping guitar line played by Harper Simon (offspring of Paul), Malone runs down an adverb-laden love story in a wry vocal that evokes folk singer Malvina Reynolds. The delicate folk number makes sense amongst a label roster that's included TK Webb and Samara Lubelski-- but of course, we'd love to hear her take on something more along the lines of, say, Psychic Ills' heavy psych or Blood on the Wall.
