New Music: Department of Eagles: "No One Does It Like You" / "Balmy Night" [MP3]
Department of Eagles are Fred Nicolaus and Daniel Rossen, who formed a band under the name of Whitey on the Moon UK back in 2001. After a few scattered releases the band changed their name to Department of Eagles, put out an album called The Whitey on the Moon UK LP, and Rossen joined Grizzly Bear.
Just like the video for Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities' "What They Said", "No One Does It Like You" makes us yearn for summer, or at least a warmer springtime. The way the echo thumps reminds us of concerts at a county fair band shell, and the golden harmonies make us think of 60s California.

"Balmy Night" has been on the band's MySpace page a bit longer than "No One Does It Like You". There's banjo throughout, but the song's best attribute is the metal hum that lurks just beneath it.
