New Music: Apparat: Komponent (Telefon Tel Aviv remix)

Chicago-via-New Orleans duo Telefon Tel Aviv's mellow balance of electronic and organic elements has rarely suited a track better than Apparat's "Komponent". Apparat-- better known as Sascha Ring, co-founder of German electronic label Shitkatapult-- originally released this tender, bleeping bit of IDM-pop on his 2005 Silizium EP, aided by cello, violin, clarinet, and Raz O'Hara's uneasy tenor.

Telefon Tel Aviv's "Komponent" remix first appeared on the same EP and is now being re-released as part of the duo's forthcoming Remixes Compiled album on Hefty. This take emphasizes Telefon's usual clattering, stereo-panning beats and warm Rhodes chords, casting bright digital light on O'Hara's worries about "phony pride". Stripping away the stormy orchestration, the track at times stretches toward the blippy heights of Dntel's seminal 2001 Life Is Full of Possibilities.

Unlike Apparat's video for the song, though, this version doesn't have lesbians. So there's that.
