At 17, Lil Mama (Niatia Kirkland) is already taking acting classes and working on pitching educational TV shows to producers. She even comes with a rough backstory, which only makes her transformation into a perfect pop product seem like it's happening even quicker.
The video for the excellent "Lip Gloss" single is all about transformation. Here Lil Mama goes from being an outcast to being popular, all because of some pink lipgloss. Nerds get cool, guys get to talk to girls, girls become better dressed girls. The bare beat (hand claps, two thumps), is window dressing to Lil Mama's forceful delivery, and to the "High School Musical"-like video. That and, there's something dead serious in her eyes in that beginning scene, even if the rest of the video is all confection. Maybe she'll be a good actress.
