New Music: Grizzly Bear: "He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)" / "Little Brother" / "Shift" (Daytrotter Session)
Daytrotter has added Grizzly Bear to the long list of bands who have recorded sessions for their site-- other artists include the Ponys, Of Montreal, Frog Eyes, and P.O.S. The first song the band recorded is a cover of the Crystals' "He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)", which they've played a lot on their Yellow House tour. The Gerry Goffin/Carole King-penned, Phil Spector-produced original here becomes sparse and ghostly.

"Little Brother" is from Yellow House, but the band uses a different arrangements here, ones that they've also been using live.

"Shift", from 2004's Horn of Plenty, is a session favorite for the band-- last year they recorded an acoustic version for a French radio session. But this electric version is quite different, and it isn't exactly like the LP version either-- something about the guitar tone makes it sound like chimes, blown into motion by Ed Drost and company's breathy harmonies.
