New Music: Yo Majesty: "Monkey" / "Kryptonite Pussy" / "Club Action" [Stream]
Meet Yo Majesty, the queens of your summer jams. Three around-the-way butchies from Tampa, Florida (a rarity in the rap world in general) are reclaiming the same double dutch fun as J.J. Fad, Salt-N-Pepa, L'Trimm, (and, yes, Fergie), the fierce, pro-sex stance of Lil' Kim or Peaches, and the bubbly electro-beats that could occupy the same dancefloor as upcoming tourmates CSS and Bonde Do Role. "Monkey" is a "Sprockets"-like masturbation metaphor and "Kryptonite Pussy" makes you wonder if that's what the Spin Doctors were really singing about. On "Club Action", in between a "Jam on It" bassline and keyboards like carhorns, Yo Majesty make the refrain "fuck that, fuck that shit," into this year's "ooh, it's my shit, it's my shit," a battle cry that basically means everything and nothing.
