Video: Maxïmo Park: "Books From Boxes"
The pleasures of UK new-new-wavers Maxïmo Park's trebly sophomore LP Our Earthly Pleasures aren't the kind that sound good in hypertext. The video for that album's second single, "Books from Boxes" (out June 11), is as direct and straightforward as the punchy, love-drunk guitar pop it accompanies. Shots of the band playing bump up against views of earnest-looking lead singer Paul Smith following a forlorn, trenchcoat-clad woman down flower-decorated outdoor staircases and through sunset evenings, proclaiming, "All I know is that you're sat here right next to me." Saving their relationship might not be quite so simple.
