New Music: The Hood Internet (ABX): "Doe Boys and Fresh Girls in America" (Three 6 Mafia vs. The Hold Steady)

I know, we're all still recovering from news the release date for Three 6 Mafia's upcoming 6 to Walk has been pushed back yet again (it's now due July 3, via Hypnotize Minds/Columbia). But the Memphis-based Academy Award winners' latest single, "Doe Boy Fresh" (feat. Chamillionaire), has been out since the beginning of the year, along with its Being John Malkovich-inspired video. Over at the Hood Internet-- who have already turned around tracks involving the new Go! Team single, as well as Dan Deacon vs. that Khia single from last year that nobody listened to-- ABX slams DJ Paul's macho growls, Chamillionaire's sing-song smoothness and Juicy J's yo-yo bounce up against the Ben Folds piano-man runs of the Hold Steady's "Stuck Between Stations", from Boys and Girls in America (on Vagrant). The Steady's ivory-tinkling prettiness here nicely sets off Paul's rough words, providing an event starker contrast than it goes against Craig Finn's barstool poetry. Classic-rock guitars burst in just in time for the "Adventures in Hollyhood" reality stars' dope/fresh hook. One word of advice: For as long as "Doe Boy Fresh" is their current single, Three 6 might want to steer clear of Deerhunter's crosshairs. Does anyone else smell "beef"? Um, venison?
