Video: Black Lips: "Cold Hands"
What happened to the Black Lips? Time was, these wily bastards were-- no exaggeration-- one of the rowdiest live bands in the world. Everyone who caught them coming through town back in the day has a story about their shows, and most of them involve some configuration of nakedness, puking on the audience, pissing on each other, alcohol poisoning-- even fuckin' wigs, man.
The boys have cleaned up some since then, but even if they're not throwing fireworks at the crowd anymore, their seedy garage-rock still crackles and pops. With a new album coming out in September-- their first studio-recorded full-length for Vice Records, following this year's earlier Pitchfork-underrated Tijuana live album Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo-- they busted out a video. It's for the first UK single (and brand new track), "Cold Hands", and if you're about a thousand years old, you remember back in 88 when pretty much all of MTV's "120 Minutes" looked exactly like it.
