Video: Simian Mobile Disco: "I Believe"
Monkeys, come home: Hot-shit production/remix team Simian Mobile Disco formed from the ashes of UK psych-pop group Simian. SMD's James Ellis Ford and James Anthony Shaw are rejoined by their former band's vocalist, Simon William Lord, for "I Believe", the second single from completely bananas debut album Attack Decay Sustain Release (due June 18 on Wichita). Where first single "It's the Beat" ties its electro-rock to guest vocals by the Go! Team's Ninja, Lord's turn on "I Believe" is more yearning, melodic pop song than action-theme cheerleader chant-- though both are dancefloor-ready. Directed by Romain Gavras de Kourtrajmé, the video for "I Believe" doesn't immediately seem likely to repeat the Kanye-baiting success of last year's MTV Europe Video Awards winner "We Are Your Friends", a Simian remix credited to Justice vs. Simian. In the new clip, a green-jacketed Lord sings from the hood of a car in what looks possibly to be Eastern Europe. The locals at first sit still, but then start to go about their everyday lives-- chopping wood, hanging laundry, etc.-- while singing along and/or nodding their heads to the beat. Sorry, no Borat. Thanks to reader Jordan Johnsson for the tip.
