Video: Arctic Monkeys: "Fluorescent Adolescent"
When UK rockers Arctic Monkeys grabbed their nation's attention with last year's Whatever They Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, they kept an ace up their sleeve: "Mardy Bum". Despite its lighter-inviting chorus, that swaying song was never released as a single. Still, it was impressive to realize such a buzzed-about band could've been even bigger-- if only singer Alex Turner would say the word.
Go apeshit. The Sheffield quartet have tapped "Fluorescent Adolescent", the most "Mardy Bum"-like track from sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare, as the single to follow the propulsive scenester diss "Brianstorm". The Richard Ayoade-directed video for "Fluorescent" stars Stephen Graham, who also appeared in the clip for the debut's "When the Sun Goes Down" but is probably better known for his roles in the films Snatch and Gangs of New York. As Smokey Robinson might have said, there's not too much stranger than the violence of clowns. Except maybe that big-nose guy from "Interstate Love Song".
