On Repeat: Misha: "Summersend" [MP3, Stream]

A song like this, you want to build it a suit of armor around it because it's so soft and delicate you're afraid the world's going to send along something to snuff it out. Ashley Yao and John Chao are Misha, and they live in New York. Here they manage an almost perfect expression of longing, the emotion that indie pop, of all genres, most efficiently brings into the world. "Summersend" goes from ringing, trembling guitars to modest little verses to a catchy chorus that positively drips with yearning. And you sorta feel like an even catchier and more devastating couple of bars might be luring around the next chord progression, but this moment never comes, which is perfect, since unfulfilled desire is what longing is all about.
