New Music: Amiina: "Rugla" [MP3 + Stream]
These four women from Iceland-- dottirs of Ársæls, Ólafs, Sigfús, and Sumarliða-- are best known as the string section that played on the last two Sigur Rós albums (they tour with the Rós as well). Last year they released a debut EP filled with moody, intricately constructed instrumentals created on a host of mysterious instruments, like they'd raided Colleen's steamer trunk and added their own swells of violin on top. This pleasing track from their upcoming full-length is a simpler pleasure, a patient stroll through some guitar chords with a singing saw while stately strings light the way. And then, at the end, a little quiet chanting comes in to keep you company.
