New Music: Six Finger Satellite: "Dream Baby Dream" [Stream]

Before John Maclean made pretty house music for DFA as the Juan Maclean (check out 2005's Less Than Human), he played bristling post-hardcore and, later, punishing electro-punk with Providence-based Sub Pop band Six Finger Satellite. That band's last album, 1998's Law of Ruins, explored dub and Krautrock. It's been a hell of a long time, but new MySpace track "Dream Baby Dream" takes Six Fingers Seven further into the realm of murky, electronics-addled post-rock. Like a funhouse-mirror murder mystery version of Goldfrapp's "Ohh La La", "Dream Baby Dream" builds a "Bad to the Bone" bass riff into a repetitive, occasionally skronky song about...romance? "I love you," goes a distant vocal, smothered in enough exaggerated Elvis-style echo for Suicide's Alan Vega. Welcome back, dudes, and thanks for scaring the fuck out of us.
