Video: Rufus Wainwright: "Rules and Regulations"
Rufus Wainwright's cabaret-pop just wasn't made for these times, as Pitchfork's Mark Pytlik points out in his review of the singer-songwriter's latest, Release the Stars. I'm not sure Wainwright's urbane, lushly orchestrated "Rules and Regulations" was made for the 19th-century vibe implied by its new video, but the long underwear, "Cheers" intro mustaches, and line-dancing make for an entertaining few minutes. And Wainwright's intent camera gaze is hard to break, too. Directed by Petro Papahadjopoulos, the video is at AOL's Spinner blog, but the setting is a London mansion. Posh, dears.
