Video: Sonic Youth: "Sonic Youth Came to China..."

Sonic Youth made the trip to China in April for their first-ever shows in the People's Republic. This excellent video by Split Works recaps the New York indie legends' visit, complete with interviews with the band and their fans as well as sweet live footage of "Incinerate" (from last year's superb Rather Ripped).

"I've listened to this music since high school," a young Chinese woman tells the interviewer, via subtitles. The crowd chants Sonic Youth's name before one performance, and Thurston Moore informs Shanghai that they're No. 1, raising a finger into the air. He says later, "Every audience is different and at the same time, every audience is the same, because basically what's going on there is this kind of, just, sharing of expression."

You can also catch Split Works' China videos for Maximo Park, the Infidels and Killa Kella, and Bugz in the Attic and the NextMen. Isn't sharing great?
