"Halloweenhead"

Video: Ryan Adams: "Halloweenhead"

Nothing-- absolutely nothing-- could better suit Ryan Adams' new rocker "Halloweenhead", from just-released Easy Tiger, than this video posted on Yahoo. Why? Well, it's a middle-aged couple disco-dancing. And then other middle-aged couples taking the floor to disco-dance with them. What'd you think? While most of the songs on Easy Tiger tend to trade the goofiness of Adams' online persona for the earnestness of his commercial heyday, "Halloweenhead" is loaded with ridiculous sound effects, over-the-top Journey-style harmonies, and a silly title metaphor involving "tricks and treats". It's what the pros call "funny".

Otherwise, why is a man who already released a song called "Halloween" now singing about his "Halloweenhead"? On an album that also has songs called "Goodnight Rose" and "Tears of Gold", from a guy who already released albums called Cold Roses and, um, Gold? What did Adams mean back when he used to ask us to be his "winding wheel", anyway? "Guitar solo," he points out here, but the oldsters just keep on dancing. Maybe the clip is a commentary on the emptiness of music videos, or more likely Adams simply has a weird sense of humor.
