New Music: Dandi Wind: "Apotemnophilia" [MP3/Stream]

Dandi Wind just wrapped up a European tour with the Horrors, but it's hard to believe those highly touted UK shock-rockers could out-shock these Vancouver-via-Montreal electro-punks. "Apotemnophilia", from debut album Concrete Igloo, is named for a psychological condition that involves the uncontrollable desire to have a limb amputated. The music has a gothic chill to match this grisly theme, with metronomic beats somewhere between Pretty Hate Machine and a Kitsuné Maison comp. "And he said that the enemy is eating him up/ And he said, and he said, and he said," squeals vocalist Dandilion Wind Opaine, like Karen O in a Knife-fight. Szam Findlay's dense arrangement includes synths that sound like voices, or voices that sound like synths, which at any moment threaten to take on a serrated edge. Keep it pointed away from your extremities.
