"Tarantula"

Video: Smashing Pumpkins: "Tarantula"

Ever since news of a Smashing Pumpkins reunion broke, one question has reigned supreme. Who the hell, in 2007, are Smashing Pumpkins? Well, replace those question marks with...lots and lots of people, because the video for the first single from Billy Corgan & whomever's forthcoming Zeitgeist has the answer. Today's Smashing Pumpkins comprise: a guy in a messianic white robe who looks just like Billy Corgan, a drummer who's the spitting image of Jimmy Chamberlin, plus about, oh, maybe a dozen other musicians. Yup.

In the clip for "Tarantula", Corgan and his backup singers and backup guitarists-- including a guy with dreadlocks, a guy with a Dracula collar, a D'arcy-esque figure in a dress, and a woman wearing what looks like some kind of uniform-- basically just rock ("rock"?) in front of various green-screen color schemes. Sometimes two Corgans are on the screen at the same time. "I wanna love you when you're sad," Corgan sings. He's smiling. And then: "Close your eyes, you'll see." Hmm, I only see my eyelids. AOL's Spinner has the video.
