Colin Meloy and company rocked the Hollywood Bowl this weekend as only the Portland folk troupe could-- backed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, their billowing sea-shanties were expanded to mythic proportions.
Case in point: "Los Angeles, I'm Yours", from 2003's Her Majesty the Decemberists, took on new orchestral flair as Meloy dedicated the number to his recently married sister. Starting off with just his distinctive tenor and guitar, the Philharmonic gradually augments Meloy's ballad, erupting into a flurry of staccato horns and strings for the finale.
