New Music: Grizzly Bear: "Easier" / "Knife" / "He Hit Me (And it Felt Like a Kiss)" / "On a Neck, On a Spit" (live on NPR's "Pop Sessions") [Stream]
Last week Grizzly Bear dropped by KEXP's studios in Seattle to record songs for NPR's "Pop Sessions" series. Their quiet strums and hushed, intimate, close-mic'd vocals are ideal for the radio session format. Though Yellow House was a lush pop record and very much a studio creation, as these arrangements show, the Bear -- can I call them the Bear?-- is ready to rock at the drop of a hat. Well, maybe not "rock", exactly; maybe "croon" is better, or "swoon," or some other word with a few more o's in it. Check out the harmonies-- complete with Oak Ridge Boys bottom end, getty-up-- on this version of "Knife" and think of your own verb.
