"Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind" (live at the 2006 Pitchfork Music Festival)

Video: Yo La Tengo: "Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind" (live at the 2006 Pitchfork Music Festival)

I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass hadn't been released when Yo La Tengo played last year's festival. Suffice to say, the crowd was a little bewildered when their set wound up being dominated by new Afraid material that no one had heard. Which is why this clip is such a wonder now, after having digested the record and seen YLT on tour since. The album's opening track sounds like a ramshackle garage version of Hendrix backed by Can, Ira Kaplan squeezing every sound possible from his guitar while Georgia Hubley and James McNew lock into an unchanging groove.
