"Melody Day"

Video: Caribou: "Melody Day"

The first single from Caribou's forthcoming Andorra is starting to sound pretty familiar. Not what we're complaining. "Melody Day" first showed its swirling psych-pop colors around these parts more than a month ago, and then we got our carpal tunnel-mangled fingers on the snazzy Four Tet remix. Most recently, director Daniel Eskils has put together an appropriately eerie video for the track.

The setting could be a wasteland or a lunar surface, as two silvery figures hammer stakes into the ground. A flag is planted, and ropes are used to lift a larger shape from the rocks and rubble. Caribou's Dan Snaith is present, too, performing his song wearing a coat that's probably appropriate for his previous namesake, Manitoba. The sun comes out, and a bird appears in the sky-- must not be the moon, after all. It still seems kinda ominous that Caribou's drummer has no face.
