New Music: Dan Deacon: "Totally Boner Eat Shit"
No one ever accused Baltimore electronic wizard Dan Deacon of taking himself too seriously. Just look at the dude's "The Crystal Cat" video. Or his insane live show. Or, fuck, that time he impersonated a talking lizard! With debut full-length Spiderman of the Rings getting some well-deserved attention, including Best New Music plaudits, Deacon is back to his usual shenanigans on this "The Crystal Cat" B-side, "Totally Boner Eat Shit".
Of course, our first surprise was that such an ingenious song title hadn't already been taken (Morrissey, you snoozed). The rest of "Totally Boner Eat Shit", if you know Deacon, isn't a surprise at all-- full of videogame whirs and buzzes, an occasional high-pitched electronic whine, and plenty of laid-back thuds. He seems to take special delight in shouting, with some female backing singers, the song's immortal hook...that's "Totally Boner Eat Shit", in case you forgot. Which, for better and worse, you couldn't possibly.
