Video: Bad Brains: "Give Thanks and Praise / Jah Love"

Bad Brains live footage, pre-YouTube, was "something of a holy grail," Pitchfork's Zach Baron wrote recently when posting some videos of the Washington, D.C. punk/reggae pioneers. So pegging the video (directed by Shavo Odadjian from System of a Down) from Bad Brains reunion album Build a Nation to concert clips, even more current ones, was a smart move. The band enters in slow-motion black-and-white for "Give Thanks and Praise", and the song's demented thrash soon has the audience members-- now in vivid, concert-in-the-sun color-- crowdsurfing and bouncing around. When the music segues to the slicker, bass-heavy reggae "Jah Love", the video changes venues, putting Bad Brains by the waterfront. It might not convince you they're the "greatest live band ever," as Dave Grohl supposedly claimed, but all those present sure look like they're having fun.
