Have patience, hirsute Devendra Banhart acolytes, for Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon keeps getting clearer with time. When freak-folk's resident shaman unveiled the tracklist for his forthcoming album, he also posted a pair of new songs on his MySpace page. Now Devban has launched his eponymous dotcom, where he's streaming two more tracks from the release.
"So Long Old Bean" floats by on pastoral tropicália and dreamy backing vocals, while "Seahorse" shifts from deliberate acoustic arpeggios to Dave Brubeck piano jazziness before lurching into a ragged folk-rock coda. Banhart has posted lyrics to both songs here. There's also a "Seahorse" video showing the songwriter at his desk, in the studio, and outside in nature (a caption on the website reads, "This is not a music video"); the coup de grâce is a brief panpipes breakdown at the end. Shine on, you golden apple.
