"Cannot Get, Started"

Video: Handsome Furs: "Cannot Get, Started"

First, they were dinner guests. The latest video from Handsome Furs' Sub Pop debut Plague Park starts with outdoor dining. Directed by Matt Moroz, who was also behind Wolf Parade's "Shine a Light" clip, the video for "Cannot Get, Started" takes a grittily realistic look at the relationship between a girl who wears sunglasses at night and Sixtoo, who follows her around. Sure enough, their truck can't get started-- for a minute. Meanwhile, the lyrics come in cluttered bunches of details evoking a hoarser take on the Jam's "That's Entertainment": "Nervous walking, swinging arms like satellites," Wolf Parade's Dan Boeckner sings. Bookending the video is footage of Handsome Furs (aka Boeckner and poet Alexei Perry) strumming and playing keyboard on this halting, electronics-infused slow burner. MTV's Subterranean blog has the clip.
