Video: The Shins: "Turn on Me"

The guitar riff on the Shins' "Turn on Me", from Wincing the Night Away, is slightly reminiscent of the chiming, merry-go-round notes at the heart of the Crystals' classic "Then He Kissed Me". But puppy love isn't exactly the mood conveyed by the song's John Updike-referencing lyrics-- or by its video, which will surely sic a certain SPCA on the Portland, Ore., indie poppers. First, though, we endure a pool scene involving scantily clad wrinkled flesh, Jello, insects, and Sean Connery chest hair. Dog days of summer aside, much of this video serves as a good reminder to listen to that guy everyone thought was Kurt Vonnegut when he said, "Wear sunscreen." Yeesh.
