Video: Andrew Bird: "Imitosis"
"We were all basically alone/ And despite what all his studies had shown," sings Andrew Bird in "Imitosis", a tune Pitchfork's Jessica Suarez found a bit too clever when it hit MySpace earlier this year. The video for the swinging chamber pop tune, directed by Britta Johnson, shows how some of the research may have gone down. Apparently, it involves hooking electrodes to jeweled insects, lots of counting on a blackboard, and Bird, looking professorial, playing violin in an empty classroom. Highly questionable methodology, to be sure; no wonder these studies turned out to have such poor predictive value.
