"Through My Sails" (Neil Young cover) [MP3]

New Music: Soulsavers [ft. Mark Lanegan and Will Oldham]: "Through My Sails" (Neil Young cover) [MP3]

Earlier this year, Soulsavers, the English production duo consisting of Rich Machin and Ian Glover, issued It's Not How Far You Fall, It's the Way You Land, an album with featured vocals and songwriting contributions from Mark Lanegan. Originally released in the UK, the album is on the verge of a stateside release. In addition to original songs from Soulsavers and Lanegan, the record contains several covers, including a run at the Rolling Stones' "No Expectations" and this take on Neil Young's "Through My Sails", which finds the omnipresent Will Oldham joining on harmony. Where Young's original from Zuma is an acoustic campfire singalong-- guitar, vocals, and a bit of hand percussion-- Soulsavers give the song an ethereal 4AD touch. Oldham's cracked vulnerability contrasts nicely with Lanegan's weary tough-guy tone over a chord production that Chan Marshall may have unconsciously borrowed from for "Lived in Bars".
