New Music: The Decemberists: "The Perfect Crime #2 (Junior Boys Remix)" [Stream]

Indie kids didn't just learn how to dance again. The indie kids on major labels (yes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) long ago learned how to hire a few big-name remixers to try to make their rockin' tunes sound good on a dancefloor. Just like Bush. Isn't learning fun, indie kids?

As Pitchfork's Amy Phillips recently reported, bookish jangle-pop brigade The Decemberists have commissioned the Junior Boys, Diplo, and A Touch of Class to add a touch of, well, another artist's touch to "The Perfect Crime #2" for the band's forthcoming EP. Junior Boys' reworking of the song-- probably the Decemberists' most appropriate, with its lifted "Life During Wartime" beat-- wisely goes more Last Exit than The Crane Wife (more head, less talking). But yeah, that's still Colin Meloy's vocal hook floating between icy electronic repetitions, thumping rhythm, and occasional disembodied guitar skinnyness. I mean, it's definitely not "You! Me! Dancing!".
