New Music: Kraftwerk: "Aerodynamik (Intelligent Design Mix)" [Hot Chip Remix] [Stream]

You may have missed the news amid all the headlines about doping controversies, but the Tour de France began in London this year for the first time in history. In honor of the occasion, Kraftwerk asked London dance-pop outfit Hot Chip to remix a pair of tracks that originally appeared on the German electro pioneers' 2003 Tour De France Soundtracks. On "Aerodynamik", Kraftwerk sorta meet Hot Chip halfway; the original track has a steady house pulse awash in dreamy synths, though they could be wafting down from some Bavarian castle. Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard keep much of the Tour De France Soundtracks version's pristine entrancement. Their "Intelligent Design Mix" has a thumping bass drum, various effects-laden synth organs, and adds an elastic bassline-- a modest, performance-enhancing update, complete with Kraftwerk's original computer vocals. Fellow Hot Chippers Al Doyle and Felix Martin also remixed Kraftwerk's "La Forme" for the same release, available on 12", CD, or digital download.
