"Grip Like a Vice" (Live)

Video: The Go! Team: "Grip Like a Vice" (Live)

The Go! Team's indie jock jams slayed your friendly professional cranks back at the first Pitchfork-curated festival in 2005. And if live album Audio Assault Course couldn't hold our enthusiasm, it wasn't for lack of good cheer. This live clip of "Grip Like a Vice", from the group's upcoming follow-up Proof of Youth, might also melt if burnt to disc, but as a professionally produced black-and-white video, it gives at least a hint of how these dudes might've made even the fearsome Rob Mitchum break into a grin (hypothetically!). Ninja prances around the stage, a kinetic focal point in palm-tree tanktop and shorts, as guitarist Kaori Tsuchida occasionally gives backing cheers. When it's time to break from the Jackson Five-Oh good vibes, Ian Parton leads the band into a chaotic, guitar-led bridge. Soon enough, the "A-Team" horn samples are back in place, on top of the world. I mean, if you're into that whole fun-having thing.

[Original track from Proof of Youth, due 09/11/07 on Sub Pop]
