Video: Feist: "1234" [ft. New Pornographers, Grizzly Bear, the National, and Mates of State] (Live on "Late Show With David Letterman")
Canada and Brooklyn and I guess Lawrence, Kansas, all descended on "Late Show With David Letterman" last night. As previously reported, members of the Broken Social Scene, the New Pornographers, Grizzly Bear, the National, and Mates of State joined forces as a hand-clapping choir to back up Leslie Feist in a banjo-and-horns rendition of "1234", from the Canadian chanteuse's Best New Music-decorated The Reminder. Just add some balloons, a worldwide live satellite link-up, and some bizarre shouts from Paul McCartney, and it could've almost been a dippy indie-rock "All You Need Is Love" moment. Except, you know, not. It's still a kick to see Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning of BSS, Carl "A.C." Newman of the New Pornographers, Aaron Dessner, Bryan Devendorf, and Scott Devendorf of the National, Nicole Atkins, everybody in Grizzly Bear, and both Mates of State, all on stage at the same time.
