"A New Chance"

Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper never had it so good. Sweden's the Tough Alliance give separate titles and catalogue numbers to all their videos and remixes, and they've slapped the name "Uneasy Riders" on the clip for "A New Chance", from their current album of the same name. The song expresses romantic hopefulness with just a few simple lyrics over Caribbean-inflected electronic beats, acoustic guitars, and lush keyboards. "I know a place where diamonds never fade away/ I know a place where hate and innocence can play," comes a reverb-soaked vocal.

The video for "A New Chance" shows a search for that place, where rainforest animals twitter and electric guitar stabs Rapture-like at the breakdown. TTA's Eric Berglund and Henning Fürst are sharing a motor-scooter ride around a verdant, tree-lined setting. Sometimes windshield wipers make it obvious they're being filmed from another vehicle, puncturing suspension of disbelief much as the video pokes at the psychedelic swagger of the classic American road movie-- to these dudes, sincerity is the new subversiveness. Berglund and Fürst look as comfortable with each other as a pair of Judd Apatow protagonists, at one point picking out a flower-bearing potted plant (considering yellow, they settle on red). Jack Nicholson must've been drunk, 'cause he ain't here.
