New Music: The Flaming Lips: "I Was Zapped by the Lucky Super Rainbow" [Stream]

Every Dane Cook movie should feature new music from the Flaming Lips. It's the only way to balance out the universe karmically. And "I Was Zapped by the Lucky Super Rainbow", the lead-off track from the surprisingly good Good Luck Chuck soundtrack, could compensate for a wealth of cinematic sins. Marrying the band's do-you-realize??? earnestness with a burst of bottled-up pop energy, the song could be an outtake from Transmissions from the Satellite Heart or a paean to recent tour openers Black Moth Super Rainbow. Sure, Wayne Coyne's magical meteorological lyrics may not be the most effective metaphor for romantic excitement-- a bolt of lightning can't really chase the storm away, seeing as how it's part of the storm-- but the sentiment is sweet enough ("it even makes the fucked-up days feel like part of the plan"). Plus, you might even be able to convince yourself that the cartoon Greek chorus singing "You're a lucky motherfucker!" is actually a critical comment on Cook's career.
