New Music: Britney Spears [ft. Lil Wayne]: "Gimme More (Max Methods Remix)" [Stream]

Well, son of a "It's Britney, bitch." Virginia producer Max Methods has given Britney Spears' don't-call-it-a comeback single "Gimme More" a "dirty pop" remix, and who should toss the former teen star a guest verse but "the best rapper alive" himself, Lil Wayne. If the original came off as a commercial for Timbaland protégé Nate "Danjahandz" Hill, as we wrote, then the latest is subtler advertorial for Methods' similarly Tim-indebted methods.

Lil Wayne's largely recycled guest verses here are closer to his disappointing sleepwalk through Kanye West's "Barry Bonds" rather than his clever rhymes on West's "Can't Tell Me Nothin' (Remix)" (or the other-continent insanity of Weezy's Da Drought 3 mixtape). "I can help you get off like it was the weekend," Wayne raps, as if a star of Spears' stature needs to know what day it is. Worse, his fast pace conceals the expressive gruffness that's so key to his appeal. Methods keeps the beat future-sexy, even throwing in weird vocal uhhs. The guy doesn't throw his name all over the place, Danja-style, but he's what we'll remember about this remix other than shiny black underwear. And Timbaland. But not Timbaland in shiny black underwear.
