New Music: Robert Pollard: "The Killers" / "Rud Fins" [MP3s]
A little while ago we offered an opportunity to hear some highlights from Robert Pollard's Fading Captain series, as handpicked from the Crickets compilation by Pitchfork's Jason Crock. The retrospective was not, of course, a sign that the ever-prolific tunesmith is slowing down; in fact, he has two new albums coming out next month on Merge. One record is about the unusual decisions gargoyles have been known to make-- oops, my bad, it's actually Standard Gargoyle Decisions-- while the other promises a potentially bumpy ride with Bob on the Coast to Coast Carpet of Love. "The Killers", from the former, is a meaty rocker, while Carpet's "Rud Fins" is more relaxed and contemplative.
