Video: José González: "How Low" / "Abram" / "Fold" (Live on "The Take Away Show")
La Blogothèque's "Take Away Show" for José González is a Texas two-parter. We previously posted part one, which showed the Swedish singer/songwriter in Marfas, Texas, playing "Hints", from debut album Veneer, and "Storm", from the 2003 Crosses EP. The second part looks to be filmed in the same desert town, but now González gives us a trio of bleakly evocative musical landscapes from his Pitchfork-recommended sophomore album, the just-released In Our Nature.
For war-weary lead track "How Low", González and band member Yukimi Nagamo harmonize in front of a wood-paneled building. The quiet theological bombshell "Abram" finds González sitting in the wind above some railroad tracks. Finally, "Fold" depicts the artful, minimalist troubadour at his most Nick Drake-like, murmuring about walking "down all the aisles" before softly begging, "Please, don't let me down this time." He doesn't.
