Video: Joy Division: "Transmission"
Music-related biopics are a dime-a-dozen, but Control, the forthcoming film about Joy Division's Ian Curtis directed by famed photographer and video director Anton Corbijn (U2, Depeche Mode), seems to be inspiring everything from mild curiosity to heated anticipation. The film opens next week, and an interesting video just appeared on YouTube, which mashes up fictional clips from the film (a television introduction, live footage) with real-life counterparts, all centered around a performance of "Transmission". There's certainly something eerie about the juxtaposition, and the clip also shows the pains taken to capture the era. If only it were longer, alas-- the sound you hear when the song fades early is a few thousand Joy Division fans walking over to cue up a record.
