"Tick Tick Boom"

Video: The Hives: "Tick Tick Boom"

There's a timebomb ticking, but this time it's not Beck's one-off iTunes single. Swedish garage-rockers the Hives put their own explosive selves on display in some kind of Lilliputian museum in the video for Nike-approved new single "Tick Tick Boom", from the Maroon 5 tourmates' forthcoming The Black and White Album. While the album involves the assistance of Pharrell Williams, the song is mostly the kind of roaring power-chord raucousness the Hives have specialized in since the turn of the millennium. "Yeahhh!!!!" Howlin' Pelle Almqvist howls, as he and his bandmates are hauled out of crates and set up for tourists to admire. Somebody's head pops open, flames appear because that's what a budget is for, and by the time the countdown is over, the Hives have totally ruined somebody's vacation photo.
