Video: Dan Deacon: "Crystal Cat" (Live at the Pitchfork Music Festival)
You can read a zillion blog posts about how insane Dan Deacon's live shows are. His Best New Music-ized album Spiderman of the Rings, with its lo-fi electronics, high-pitched vocals, and zany pop experiments, is another good indication. And yeah, there's always YouTube (or our previously posted live video). It's hard not to assume, though, that the only way to get the full Deacon experience is to witness the Baltimore-based art-weirdo personally, in all his balding, bespectacled glory.
In the meantime, here's a clip of Deacon playing Spiderman standout "The Crystal Cat" at this summer's Pitchfork Music Festival. Get ready to smile-- knowingly or jealously, depending on whether or not you were part of the packed throng (I, um, wasn't). "Might as well make it sound good over there," Deacon announces, and then fires up his surging synths and chipmunk squeals, surrounded by grinning, crowd-surfing pandemonium. I have an airtight excuse for my absence, honest, but... well, just look at this thing.
