"If I Could Rock (It Would Feel Like This)" (Jens Lekman vs. R. Kelly) [MP3/Stream]

New Music: The Hood Internet (ABX): "If I Could Rock (It Would Feel Like This)" (Jens Lekman vs. R. Kelly) [MP3/Stream]

We said we couldn't wait until someone ripped off Jens Lekman's wonderful new album, the Best New Music'd Night Falls Over Kortedala. It'll still be great someday to hear his entire aesthetic reappropriated and reshaped, rather than just having his instrumentals thrown into a pre-existing form. For now, though, the Hood Internet's ABX has done something pretty startling: He's turned R. Kelly clunker "Rock Star" into swooning symphonic pop. Which, let's face it, is more befitting a true rock star than the Double Up original. Fucking Kid Rock.

Here, ABX mashes up Kelly's sub-Shop Boyz rock-star ode against Lekman's sumptuous "If I Could Cry (It Would Feel Like This)", cutting out the Swedish singer's croon altogether. Ludacris's rapidfire rhymes slide suavely into the lilting orchestration, backed by bongos. Rock's overblown guitar solos are gone. And when the R. sings, "Fuckin' wit this weed and Patrón got me hazy," he does sound a little hazy, come to think of it. Rocking must feel good.
