"Impossible (Possible Remake by Studio)"

Video Premiere: Shout Out Louds: "Impossible (Possible Remake by Studio)"

Studio recently remixed fellow Swedish group Shout Out Louds' "Impossible", and now Shout Out Louds bassist Ted Malmros has remixed his video for the song, too. Here Malmros (the man behind Peter Bjorn & John's "Young Folks" clip) rearranges some of the original video's lonely amusement-park scenes, changing many of them to black and white, and also incorporates leftover footage from the same two-day shoot in Stockholm. Studio's "Possible Remake" hinges on a simple switch at the chorus, from "impossible" to "it's possible," and the new video is also a hopeful change-- at one point, the members of the band can even be seen dancing.

But just because something can happen doesn't mean it definitely will, you know? The remix is filled with this sense of uncertain potential, stripping away some of the original Our Ill Wills version's tuneful instrumental leads to emphasize stumbling bass, shy strums, and widescreen orchestration, atop Studio's usual Afrobeat- and dub-wise percussion. In both videos, the amusement park eventually shuts off its lights, but here the change actually interrupts the song; for the last couple of minutes, we see scenes unfolding in reverse. A remembrance of things past? A reminder of what might still be? Shit, duders, anything's possible.
