"Class of 73 Bells"

Video: Prefuse 73 [ft. School of Seven Bells]: "Class of 73 Bells"

Hope your coffee has kicked in. Working under his Prefuse 73 alias, Guillermo Scott Herren recently collaborated with otherworldly Brooklyn rockers School of Seven Bells on the knottily elegant "Class of 73 Bells". The video, produced by Warp Films and directed by Chris Boyle, takes us to art class. At least, a blank sheet of paper starts and finishes the clip. In between, it's like staring into a View-Master where the images don't quite cohere. Two circles fill up much of the frame, each containing mirror images of buildings or a woman walking. Then we see a woman's mirrored profile, a city skyline, the woods. Two girls walk up to a place with bells on it. There's a tree. Finally, the animator throws the paper away. Bewitching and bewildering.
