Video: Arbouretum: "Mohammed's Hex and Bounty"
This video for Arbouretum's "Mohammed's Hex and Bounty", a song drawn from the band's album Rites of Uncovering, has the look of aged Super 8. The film is grainy and sometimes overexposed, so that the shots of a young boy and girl alone in the woods seem drawn from home movies that have been gathering dust in some attic. Eventually we see bears and wolves moving about, and all of a sudden this forest seems like a potentially dangerous place. "I was 10 and 7, and she was 10 and 5," sings Dave Heumann, the leader of this Baltimore psych-rock outfit. His voice and somber lyrics sound early-20th-century ancient, and the video, directed by Jessica Lauretti, could be from the early 1970s, all of which works together to lend an appealingly out-of-time (and hence timeless) feel.
